| In addition, the Williams Lake Indian Band holds an annual contest powwow (usually held in August) and an annual father’s day powwow (usually held in June) at their Chief William Heritage Site and RV Park. The Heritage site includes a beautiful powwow arbor and a large replica pit house (the ancestral winter home of the Shuswap people). Sugar Cane is also home to such businesses as Sugar Cane Wood Products, which primarily produces pallet lumber. In addition, many band members have home businesses that offer traditional arts and crafts (e.g. leatherwork, basketry, and beadwork), while others offer catering by providing traditional foods such as bannock, wind-dried salmon, deer meat, canned preserves and berry desserts. | |||
