ABORIGINAL RIGHTS AND TITLE

Our treaty is a proactive movement aimed at not only protecting the land and resources for our next generation, but for all generations of the Northern Secwepemc te Qelmucw to come. We see it as a measure of improving our socio-economic standing in the Cariboo-Interior while maintaining our distinct cultural beliefs and customs. We believe that section 35 of the 1982 Constitution Act was aimed at protecting these very rights of aboriginal people and any treaty that replaces or clarifies our section 35 rights will have to realize that our goals and objectives on the land are not simply for this generation, but will remain for all-time.
